Mayweather first insisted on USADA testing for his fight against Shane Mosley in May 2010, after Pacquiao declined to participate in blood testing, a stance that led to the scrapping of the first attempted negotiation for a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight. Comments Mayweather later claimed in a video that Pacquiao used performance-enhancing substances, referring to “power pellets,” which led Pacquiao to sue Mayweather and ultimately collect a settlement believed to be in the $5-million range. Pacquiao’s promoter, Bob Arum, said the rigid drug testing announced Friday “stops the rumors and bad speculation. This testing is cosmetic in the sense that it shuts up anyone making false accusations. “We've agreed on the USADA testing, and we've agreed to their rules. I believe a lot of this that was spread around [about Pacquiao's reluctance to test] was unfortunate and nonsensical. There's not any issue with Manny or Floyd. They aren't taking performance-enhancing drugs.” In 2012 Pacquiao suffered a sixth-round knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez, who had not been able to knock down Pacquiao in three previous bouts. For the 2012 bout the fighters were subjected to minimal drug testing, with urine tests performed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission only immediately before and after the fight. Following that loss, Pacquiao agreed to random blood and urine tests by the Las Vegas-based Voluntary Anti-Doping Assn. for his bouts in Macao against Brandon Rios in 2013 and Chris Algieri last November, according to VADA's Margaret Goodman. In this fight negotiation with Mayweather, Pacquiao quickly accepted Olympic-style drug testing. USADA said it will inform both the Nevada commission and WADA of test results from Mayweather and Pacquiao. The agency plans to use the advanced Carbon Isotope Ratio process in testing for synthetic testosterone while also testing for the energy-boosting EPO and strength-building human growth hormone.

Mike Tyson offered advice in a YouTube video for Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao ahead of their highly anticipated May 2 bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.Citing Pacquiao's active style, Tyson said he thinks Mayweather might not be able to keep up if he doesn't speed up and throw more punches early."When you think about the two fighters and the people that gave Pacquiao the most difficult time in his career, only the people that threw over 100 punches a round—[Tim] Bradley, [Juan Manuel] Marquez—Floyd doesn't throw nowhere near 100 punches a round. You know what I mean? He's more of a scientific fighter, he really plots a lot and he sits around and he pulls it. [Pacquiao's] all over, trading, moving. ... That's just my opinion. I just don't think he's going to be able to play that plodding skill. [Pacquiao's] like perpetual motion."

Earlier this week, Marquez said that although Mayweather's style is different than Pacquiao's, it might not necessarily change for the fight.Cheapest Mayweather-Pacquiao ticket will be $1,500 "Floyd's style and technique has given him 47 wins, so why take a risk in the biggest fight of his career? Early life and education

His father, Floyd Mayweather Sr., was a former welterweight contender who fought Hall of Famer Sugar Ray Leonard. His uncles (Jeff Mayweather and Roger Mayweather) were professional boxers, with Roger – Floyd’s current trainer – winning two world championships. Mayweather was born with his mother's last name,[15] but his last name would change to Mayweather shortly thereafter.

Boxing has been a part of Mayweather's life since his childhood and he never seriously considered any other profession. "I think my grandmother saw my potential first", Mayweather said. "When I was young, I told her 'I think I should get a job'. She said, 'No, just keep boxing'".[16] "When I was about eight or nine, I lived in New Jersey with my mother and we were seven deep in one bedroom and sometimes we didn't have electricity", Mayweather said. "When people see what I have now, they have no idea of where I came from and how I didn't have anything growing up".

It was not uncommon for young Mayweather to come home from school and find used heroin needles in his front yard.[17] His mother was also addicted to drugs, and he had an aunt who died from AIDS because of her drug use. "People don't know the hell I've been through", he says.

The most time that his father spent with him was taking him to the gym to train and work on his boxing, according to Mayweather. "I don't remember him ever taking me anywhere or doing anything that a father would do with a son, going to the park or to the movies or to get ice cream", he says. "I always thought that he liked his daughter (Floyd's older stepsister) better than he liked me because she never got whippings and I got whippings all the time".

Mayweather's father contends that Floyd is not telling the truth about their early relationship. "Even though his daddy did sell drugs, I didn't deprive my son", the elder Mayweather says. "The drugs I sold, he was a part of it. He had plenty of food. He had the best clothes and I gave him money. He didn't want for anything. Anybody in Grand Rapids can tell you that I took care of my kids".[18] Floyd senior says he did all of his hustling at night and spent his days with his son, taking him to the gym and training him to be a boxer. "If it wasn't for me he wouldn't be where he is today", he maintains.

"I basically raised myself," Mayweather says. "My grandmother did what she could. When she got mad at me I'd go to my mom's house. My life was ups and downs". His father says he knows how much pain his incarceration caused his son, but insists he did the best he could. "I sent him to live with his grandmother", he says. "It wasn't like I left him with strangers".

Boxing became Mayweather's outlet – a way to deal with his father's absence.[citation needed] As the elder Mayweather served his time his son – with speed and an uncanny ring sense – put all his energies into boxing, dropping out of high school. "I knew that I was going to have to try to take care of my mom and I made the decision that school wasn't that important at the time and I was going to have to box to earn a living", Mayweather says
